"ISO14001" is an international standard concerning the specifications and the use of the system for environmental protection, which was enacted aiming at incorporating environment management into management system when environmental issues have become a big social problem. Most of the leading enterprises, not only in Japan, but also in Europe and the U.S. are trying to adopt such standards, and it is becoming an indispensable certification system in both domestic and international transactions. Based on the environmental policy, Murata Machinery Ltd. acquired the certification of "ISO14001" for its Headquarters, Inuyama office, and Oita Factory (Muratec Mechatronics Co., Ltd., domestic main production base for communication equipment).
In May 1998, we set up "Eco-project" to carry out environment preservation activities based on the business judgment of "An approach to the environment is a corporate social responsibility", and has advanced activities for reducing energy consumption and saving resources by reducing electric power and office supplies, executing a car-free day, etc. In May 1999, we set up the "Environmental management committee" for acquisition of ISO14001, and started full-fledged activities in the next month by developing an environmental policy. We obtained certification in January 2000.
