Environmental Policy

Basic Environmental Principle

Basic Environmental Policies of Head Office and Kisshoin Office

The Murata Machinery Head Office and Kisshoin Office maintain a commitment to “ensuring all corporate activities, products and services display a consideration for the preservation of the earth’s environment” by minimizing the environmental impact of the Head Office’s general administration, research and development, service and sales of Muratec industrial machinery (textile machinery, machine tools and logistics and automation systems) and communications equipment (facsimile devices, etc.) manufacturing and sales, as well as the environmental impact of corporate activities centering on service, sales and research and development performed by the Kisshoin Office.

Furthermore, as these offices are located in an urban area of Kyoto, we recognize that it is of the utmost importance that we act in a suitably environmentally-responsible manner.Towards this end we endeavor as a company to adhere to the following guidelines.

1. A comprehensive environmental management system covering the activities of the Head Office together with the Kisshoin Office shall be established with the aim of protecting the environment through contamination prevention and the implementation of ongoing improvements.

2. The environmental impact of the corporate activities, products and services of the Head Office and the Kisshoin Office shall be thoroughly assessed, environmental targets and goals established, and reviews implemented.

3. The Head Office and the Kisshoin Office shall comply with all environmentally-related laws and other requirements regarding their operation.

4. All employees of the Head Office and the Kisshoin Office shall assign priority status to the following action items and shall implement them accordingly in consideration of the environmental impact of the plant’s activities, products and services.

  1) Environmental impact for development design, from product manufacture to disposal, shall be reduced.

  2) Consumption of municipal electricity, oil, gas, etc., for the purpose of powering lights, air conditioning or other equipment shall be reduced in order to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases emitted.

  3) Both the volume of waste products, such as paper, plastics and iron scrap, resulting from corporate activities shall be reduced, and recycling utilizing waste separation and collection shall be carried out in order to work towards a goal of producing zero emissions.

  4) Environmental impact for materials and parts purchasing shall be reduced.

  5) The amount of resources, primarily paper, consumed in business operations shall be reduced.

  6) Office sites and surrounding roads and walkways shall be kept clean and attractive in a manner befitting a culturally significant city such as Kyoto.

5. An internal environmental auditor shall be appointed who will perform scheduled, annual audits as well as unscheduled audits when needed, and who will help review, maintain and improve the environmental management system on an ongoing basis.

6. Promotional activities and environmental education targeting all employees of the Head Office and Kisshoin Office shall be carried out in order to raise employee awareness and understanding of Murata Machinery’s environmental guidelines; and employees shall take part in environmental conservation activities.In addition, partner companies shall be informed of Murata Machinery’s environmental guidelines and encouraged to raise awareness of and participate in environmental conservation activities carried out by the Murata Machinery Head Office.

Basic Environmental Policies of Inuyama Plant

The Murata Machinery Inuyama Plant and the Muratec Automation Ise Office (hereafter, “the Offices”) adhere to the environmental principles of Murata Machinery in undertaking the development, manufacture, sale and service of industrial machinery (machine tools, logistics and automation systems, clean-room systems) and service for communications equipment (facsimile devices) while, as the primary plant of Murata Machinery, carefully assessing environmental impact in order to keep it as small as economically and technologically possible.Towards this end we endeavor to adhere to the following guidelines.

1. An environmental management system shall be established at the Offices, and environmentally-friendly initiatives shall encompass all areas.

2. Environmental targets and objectives shall be established for the Offices, reviews performed, and both performance (including contamination prevention) and the environmental management system shall be subject to ongoing improvements.

3. Not only shall all environmentally-related laws and regulations relating to the Office’s business activities, products and services be complied with; independent standards shall be created and every effort made to meet people’s expectations for environmental friendliness.

4. All employees of the Offices shall assign priority status to the following action items and shall implement them accordingly in consideration of the environmental impact of the Offices’ activities, products and services.

  1) Electricity and thermal energy consumption within the Offices shall be reduced.

  2) Resources used for business activities shall be reduced.

  3) Industrial waste produced as a result of business activities shall be reduced, and recycling utilizing increased separation and collection shall be promoted in order to work towards the goal of achieving zero buried waste products and reduction in incinerated waste.

  4) Environmentally-friendly designs shall be used in new product development.

5. An internal environmental auditor shall be appointed who will perform scheduled, annual audits as well as unscheduled audits on an as-needed basis, and who will help review, maintain and improve environmental management.

6. Promotional activities and environmental education targeting all employees of the Offices shall be carried out in order to raise employee awareness and understanding of Murata Machinery’s environmental guidelines; and employees shall take part in environmental conservation activities.In addition, partner companies shall be informed of the Offices’ environmental guidelines and encouraged to raise awareness of and participate in environmental conservation activities carried out by the Offices.

Basic Environmental Policies of Oita Factory

The Murata Machinery Oita Factory, as a production factory of Murata Machinery undertaking the manufacture of facsimile devices, seeks to contribute to the preservation of the earth’s natural environment and the effective utilization of its resources by implementing environmental management activities which accord with the following guidelines and which are focused on the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle).

1. An environmental management system shall be established, and environmentally-friendly initiatives shall encompass all areas.

2. An assessment of the environmental impact of all factory business activities and products shall be conducted, environmental targets and objectives shall be established, regular reviews performed, and both performance (including contamination prevention) and the environmental management system shall be subject to ongoing improvements.

3. All environmental laws and regulations, as well as requirements of Murata Machinery, Ltd., relating to factory business activities and products shall be complied with, and environmental conservation activities shall be pursued.

4. The following action items shall be implemented in consideration of the environmental impact of factory business activities and products.

  1) The volume of waste products, such as paper, plastic, metal and glass, which result from factory business activities, shall be reduced, and recycling utilizing waste separation and collection shall be promoted.

  2) The environmental impact of purchasing needed office supplies, product parts, etc., shall be reduced.

  3) Environmentally-impactful hazardous chemicals shall be accounted for, appropriately controlled, and reduced.

5. Internal environmental auditing, environmental management reviews and other measures shall be used to revise and improve the environmental management system.

6. Promotional activities and environmental education targeting all employees shall be carried out in order to raise awareness and understanding about environmental guidelines and environmental conservation; and employees shall take part in environmental conservation activities.
