Special Interview with Mr. Liu Shi Zhen,
the Chairman of Luthai Textile Co., Ltd.
In last two years, Luthai Textile has concentrated particularly on the upgrading and expansion of spinning equipment. They took the initiative in China and began using Compact Spinning Frames.
Thereafter, they introduced one of Muratec's Automatic Winders, the No.21C Process Coner "Link Coner Type", for the post-processing.
We talked with Mr. Liu, the Chairman of Luthai Textile Co., Ltd.

Please tell us your reasons for choosing Compact Spinning and the Link Coner in China. |
Mr. Liu Shi Zhen
At present, most of our sales are exports to Japan, Europe and the U.S. We began Compact Spinning in early 2002, in response to quality demands in those markets.
As for the Link Coner, our objective was to retain the high quality of the yarn obtained with Compact Spinning for following processes, rather than the reduction of labor costs. |
Your No.21C includes the hairiness reducing system Perla.
What is your assessment of the Perla ? |
Mr. Liu Shi Zhen
The Compact Spinning yarn itself results in little hairiness. Yet, if hairiness increases in the winding process, then half of the benefit of Compact Spinning is lost. We adopted the Perla for the No.21C to maintain high quality for later processes.
As Luthai is an integrated manufacturer, we can deal with hairiness during post-processing. However, the Perla controls differences in hairiness between upper and lower sections of the bobbin, and our aim was to prevent problems occurring in the post-processes.

Your company is now top ranked in the world for the manufacture of pre-dyed shirt textiles. What are your prospects for the future ? |
Mr. Liu Shi Zhen
Our first objective at present is to maintain production of the high quality products that we have achieved. For example, cotton 100% no-iron shirting garments of fine count yarn and creation of new silhouette shirts with taping of stitches are within our realm.
We are also putting more effort into raising production volume of shirting garments. During FY2004 we will increase production of yarn-dyed shirting garments from 60 million meters per year, to 68 million meters. We are also planning to raise production of dyed fabric garments to 20 million meters per year. |

So you will continue to expand your spinning capacity ? |

Among current projects, we are adding more compact spinning frames in our existing factories. A new spinning and twisting plant with 100,000 spindles is to be built in Shandong Province. To reduce costs, we are also putting a private power plant into operation.
Cotton 100% shirts are our main product. To ensure stable quality, we are now establishing a raw cotton supplier base in the Xinjiang district, and an accompanying spinning plant with 50,000 spindles.

You decided to install the new model TFO twister No.3C1 Muratec Twister in the Shandong plant. What are your expectations of the 3C1 ? |
Mr. Liu Shi Zhen
At Luthai Textile, we are now operating 130 conventional No.363-II TFO twisters, mainly for fine count yarn. We chose the No.363-II because it can keep hairiness at a low level.
I know that Muratec started No. 3C1 assembling operations at their own manufacturing plant in Shanghai. However, all key components are manufactured in Japan and brought to China. This way, it keeps the quality performance high but manufacturing costs low for a double benefit.
Since we have plans to build a new large twisting factory at the Shandong plant, we hope that all productions go well as planed so that we can again choose Muratec No. 3C1 TFO's.

Thank you very much for using many of our machines in your factories. Finally, please tell us what expectations you have of Muratec in the future, and what you would like to see developed. |

We have worked together for a long time, since delivery of the No.7-II for Luthai Textile, in 1989. Since then, we have installed TFO twisters, as well as Automatic Winders. Our company and Muratec have established a very strong relationship.
Throughout the history of Luthai Textile, we have continually endeavored to improve quality. Muratec, also, has developed unique devices, such as the Perla and Pac21.
Please continue the trend of unique development with the No.21C and also continue with development of new machines, such as the new model TFO No.3C1. Overall, we hope to further our great relationship built over the past.
